Want to see the North Carolina Tar Heel’s 1924 scorebook?
How about Lennie Rosenbluth’s 1957 jersey?
How about a Mike Krzyzewski sweater? Well, maybe not. But what about that Rosenbluth jersey?
A former freelance television producer from Charlotte has opened a shrine to UNC hoops called the Blue Heaven Basketball Museum. Sorry, Duke fans. Baby blue only. David Daly says he got the idea a few years back, working on coach Dean Smith’s weekly television show at the Smith Center, where he overheard visitors to the arena’s Memorabilia Room craving more UNC memories.
Daly is no typical UNC fan. He was a team manager from 1978 to 1982, wrote a book on the 1982 national champions called “One To Remember,” and produced a 1993 video called “Blue Heaven, A History of Carolina Basketball.”
Daly says he received Smith’s blessing for the museum, which opened Nov. 3 in the Chapel Hill North retail center off I-40’s exit 266, and has used his connections to display goodies, including Phil Ford's Wooden Award, Charlie Scott’s letter jacket and an original Carmichael Auditorium scoreboard and backboard.
Museum hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, and 1-6p.m. on Sunday.
